ePTFE was accidentally invented while trying to stretch PTFE (Teflon), leading to the first waterproof-breathable fabric solution.

ePTFE (Teflon) based fabric solutions solidified themselves as the gold standard for premium waterproof-breathable performance.

Greenpeace released testing results that identified PFAS chemicals in the DWR coatings and membranes of nearly all categories of outdoor apparel, specifically calling out ePTFE (Teflon) based solutions.

High-profile class action lawsuits and state-level investigations (such as those led by the Maryland Department of the Environment) reveal that the manufacturers had known about the environmental dangers and toxicity of these chemicals for decades.

Samuel Digiambattista approached dozens of mills and engineers specializing in advanced waterproof-breathable membrane technologies with his own research and idea to create waterproof-breathable textile solutions that performed to the trusted ePTFE standard, but without the harmful PFAS chemicals.

Sam partnered with three groups of engineers with proven expertise in developing waterproof-breathable technologies, each of the three specializing in different polymers.

InderShield™ is born with the development of our proprietary waterproof-breathable textile solution that doesn't just match, but outperforms ePTFE based solutions without the use of PFAS chemicals.

Through a selective beta launch under the brand Indersity, Sam was able to immediately put InderShield™ in the hands of passionate, expert skiers and high alpine climbers to test the product in the field. Through this beta test, InderShield™ as a new technology and brand quickly spread throughout the core ski and high alpine winter sport communities.

In 2025 the EPA suddenly banned PFAS chemicals from the outerwear industry, wiping ePTFE solutions off the market, and leaving the consumers with no high performance alternatives.

So instead of waiting to exclusively distribute InderShield™’s textile solutions through existing brands, Sam expanded Indersity’s winter shell wear line in 2025 to bring InderShield™ products to the market immediately.

Established brands around the world are integrating InderShield™’s textile solutions into their product lines to fill the performance void ePTFE left, but without the PFAS chemicals.

InderShield™’s products now range from hyper light laminates weighing as little as 45gsm, up to durable 4L fabrics offering bombproof protection. Every InderShield™ product offers best in class waterproof-breathable performance without the use of PFAS chemicals.
